FAQ

Transporting gametes and embryos is a delicate process, often raising questions. Find answers to the most frequently asked questions here. And if needed, our team is available to assist you.

  • How to get a personalized quote based on distance?

If your transport involves the Île-de-France region, the majority of laboratories are listed in the transport simulator. Outside the Île-de-France region and for international destinations, you can check the "other" box in the simulator and indicate the city and country. You can also obtain a quote using the contact form or by sending an email to contact@fivdrop.com, remembering to specify the cities and countries of the originating and destination laboratory. Our team processes all emails daily and will respond to you as soon as possible.

  • Concretely, how are my glitters transported?

On the day of transport, the carrier with the already cold container goes to the departure laboratory in the morning. A member of the laboratory's biological team checks the container's temperature and inserts the straw(s). He closes the container and seals it. The carrier retrieves it and transports it to the destination by road, train, or plane, depending on the distance. The container remains in his possession throughout the transport. In the vehicle, it is securely fastened and kept upright. A biologist from our team supervises the transport while maintaining contact with the carrier. Once arrived at the destination, the notified healthcare professional receives the container, checks its temperature, removes the seal, and retrieves the straw(s). You receive a final report of the journey by email indicating the temperature curve throughout the transport. Your cells have arrived at their destination without the slightest alteration, and you are ready to continue your care.

  • Why should I choose FIV-DROP to ensure my transport?

Transporting cells frozen at -196 degrees Celsius is an extremely dangerous step biologically speaking. The risk of temperature variation and therefore cell deterioration is high. Entrusting your cells to FIV-DROP not only guarantees optimal care while respecting the crucial temperature parameter, but it also saves you time and reduces your mental burden. Don't let this step jeopardize your success in assisted reproduction; entrust it to cryotransport professionals.

  • Does IVF-DROP save me time?

YES! First, our team will contact the laboratories on your behalf to arrange a delivery date. You simply need to tell us the date of your next treatment, and we guarantee that the delivery will take place beforehand. We will prepare the documents for you to sign in advance. Finally, on the day of delivery, you won't have to do anything, whereas if you do the delivery yourself, it will take you at least half a day. You will receive a final report by email once the straw(s) arrive at their destination.

  • How can I be sure that transport has not damaged my cells?

The only parameter that can alter the integrity of frozen cells is temperature. Maintaining it at -196 degrees is absolutely necessary for their survival. Any variation in temperature exposes the cells to the risk of destruction, thus significantly compromising the chances of success in ART. We use the latest generation of containers designed for the cryotransport of human cells. They are equipped with a temperature measuring probe to record the temperature throughout the transport. As such, IVF-DROP transport is the safest way to move frozen cells.

  • Are there any special requirements for my transport abroad?

YES, crossing the French border (for both import and export) is regulated by the French Biomedicine Agency for all human embryo and gamete products. Therefore, it is imperative to have authorization from the French Biomedicine Agency to transport your cells to/from France. This is obtained by completing a specific form available on the ABM website. To complete this form, you must contact the laboratory where your cells are stored. Once the agreement is obtained, FIV-DROP will organize the transport for you.

  • How is the plane trip?

The carrier travels exclusively for your transport. They have received strict training on transport conditions. The sealed container remains in the dedicated travel bag from the departure laboratory to the arrival laboratory. It is carried by hand or in a backpack, and when the carrier sits down, the container remains placed on the floor between their legs, in an upright position. The temperature measuring probe remains in place throughout the transport. This allows it to detect even the slightest tipping movement. The FIV-DROP team is in direct contact with airport and airline security services to facilitate the container's passage and avoid exposing it to X-rays.

  • What is the transport voucher?

This is a summary document containing important information related to the transport: the patient's name, the date of transport, the number of straws, the originating and destination laboratories and their biological managers, and the name of the carrier. This document must be signed by the patient and FIV-DROP before transport.

  • What is the final report?

The final report is a summary document of the race. It includes the date of transport, the number of straws, the names of the biologists who handled the container in the starting and finishing labs, the starting and finishing temperatures, and the temperature curve. This report is emailed to you when the straws arrive at their destination.

  • Can I do my own transport? -DROP?

Indeed, you can carry out the transport of your cells yourself but it will not be without risk. First of all you will have to contact the laboratories of departure and arrival to agree on a date. You will then have to think about obtaining a container of liquid nitrogen: borrowed from the laboratory or rented from a pharmacy (be careful, very few pharmacies are able to provide one, so plan this well in advance; moreover, they are rented empty and at least 2 hours are necessary after loading the container with nitrogen to reach the target temperature). The loan and rented containers do not have a temperature measuring probe, so you will never know if the temperature has been perfectly respected throughout the transport. The IVF-DROP containers, on the other hand, are equipped with a probe allowing the temperature to be monitored precisely and continuously. On the day of transport, you will have to go to the departure laboratory, wait for a biologist to become available, fill out the required documents, receive the transport instructions, then go to the arrival laboratory on your own, wait again for a biologist to become available, give him the container, fill out the documents, wait for the biologist to collect the straws, take the empty container and bring it back to where you borrowed it. Depending on the distance, this process takes half a day or a whole day. So yes, you can do the transport yourself but it will take a lot of time, and you will have no guarantee as to the temperature compliance.

  • How much will my transport cost?

The cost of shipping depends on the distance between the departure and arrival laboratory. It is therefore essential to request a personalized quote via the simulator or contact form. For urgent requests (less than one month in France and less than three months abroad), an additional charge applies.

  • Are there any other costs to expect?

The price indicated on the quote includes the complete service: preparation of documents, explanations you need, transport and temperature control equipment, the transport itself and the final report.
